After graduation, Stewart coached at Guilford College in North Carolina for a year, served as an assistant football coach and head baseball coach at Briarcrest Christian in Memphis, and was Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Jackson (TN) Christian for 7 years.
Stewart took the associate head football and head baseball coaching positions at Mobile Christian School in 2010, in addition to coaching the offensive line at Harding University in Arkansas that spring. He also serves as minister at Independence Church of Christ in Lexington, TN.
He and his wife Sandy have 2 daughters, Madelynn and Macy Caroline.
Alex Roberts Assistant Coach
Offensive Coordinator, Defensive Line
Alex Roberts is entering his second season with the Cougars, adding to an already extensive career as both a player and coach. He played his college football at Harding University, winning an Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference championship in 1989. He began his coaching career in 1994 at Jonesboro High in Georgia, and in 2004 moved to Tennessee to become the head football coach at Ezell-Harding.
After a brief stop at Riverdale in 07-08, Coach Roberts joined the staff of Philip Shadowens at MTCS. He runs Coach Peden’s offense and coached linebackers in '09. In the spring he heads the Cougar baseball team, hoping to repeat their state playoff runs.
Coach Roberts lives in Smyrna with his wife, Jennifer, and their 3 sons Britt, Jordan, and Logan.
Steve Williams Assistant Coach
Defensive Coordinator, Linebackers
Steve Williams’ coaching career spans more than 2 decades and across 2 states. Beginning in Florida and moving to Tennessee, Williams made stops at several mid-state schools, including Smyrna (where he coached under Philip Shadowens), Hillsboro, Overton, and LaVergne. He was a member of two region championship teams, at Smyrna in 1995 and again at Hillsboro in 2000.
Coach Williams is the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach for the Cougars, while keeping his jobs as instructor and head baseball coach at Lavergne. He coached quarterbacks on '09 as well. When asked about his decision to split his time between the two schools, Williams said that it was Coach Peden’s ideals and principal Todd Miller, “two class acts,” that got him to commit to MTCS.
Williams lives in Murfreesboro with his wife, Cindi, and their 4 children Ryan, Olivia, Stephanie, and Chris.
Andrew Park Assistant Coach
Tight Ends,
Defensive Line
Coach Park was born and raised in Memphis, attending Harding Academy from 2000-2004 where he was a 4-year letter winner in football. He went to the playoffs all four years, and made two state semi-final game appearances. Moving to Nashville to attend David Lipscomb University, he graduated earlier this year.
He started his coaching career with the Cougars in 2006, and has helped with offensive and defensive lines and tight ends. He hopes to continue his coaching career at the college and pro levels, and won’t rule out the possibility of becoming an athletic director.
Coach Park says that the opportunity to connect with players, coaches, and families in a Christian environment is the best thing about MTCS football.
Coach Dwayne Beasley is entering his 3rd season with the MTCS Cougars as their Strength and Conditioning Coach. He coached for three years prior to coming to MTCS, including being on Philip Shadowens' staff at Smyrna during their State Championship in 2006. He also was part of Riverdale's 2007 Region Championship team.
In his first two seasons with the program, the Cougars made the playoffs and had their best seasons ever. Coach Beasley owns 2nd Wind Sports Training, working with several Cougar athletes including Eric Compton, Brad Chambers, and the Brunsvolds.
Coach Beasley is married to Jacinda Beasley and has two children, Jordan and Jacob.
Coach Owen Barker is entering his 4th season in coaching, with all of them coming at MTCS as the OL/DL coach. Planning on pursuing other coaching opportunities this year, he recently received an offer "that I couldn't refuse" from MTCS, so hopefully he'll be seen on the Cougar sidelines for a long time to come.
The MTSU graduate also was assistant track coach in 2008.
