Ezell-Harding Christian School
Playing @ Ezell on 8.26, 7:30 pm
Jay and Jeremy's Team Assessment:
Mascot: Eagles
Head Coach: New Coach
Colors: Crimson/White
2010 Record: 4-6
Lost in First Round of Playoffs
|
The Eagles made the postseason in 2010 and lost to Southern Baptist in the 1st round. The Eagles have had the Cougars' number over the past two years beating them in both meetings. Both games were close however with the Eagles winning in 2009 by a score of 12-10 and last year 14-7. The Cougars hope that the 3rd time will be the charm in this matchup against the Eagles. |
Cascade High School
Playing @ Home on 9.02, 7:30 pm
Jay and Jeremy's Team Assessment:
Mascot: Champions
Head Coach: Kenny Parker
Colors: Orange/Black/White
2010 Record: 7-3
Advanced to Second Round
|
The Cascade Champions in the District opener? Sheesh. Not only does head coach Kenny Parker have most of his 2010 playmakers returning, he's got a Carkuff under center for one more year. The Cougars have not played Cascade in District play without a Carkuff leading the Champion offense. After a perfect 10-0 season in 2008, Cascade has dominated the majority of their opponents, and are 3-time defending District/Region champions. No doubt the Cougars have a tall task in front of them, looking for their first win ever against Cascade. |
Cosby High School
Playing @ Cosby on 9.09, 7:00 pm
Jay and Jeremy's Team Assessment:
Mascot: Eagles
Head Coach: Tyler Shelton
Colors: Blue/White
2010 Record: 2-8
Did Not Make Playoffs |
The Cosby Eagles have seen their football fortunes totally reverse over the last 3 seasons. From 8-2 and a playoff berth in 2008, coach Tyler Shelton has seen his team go 4-6 in 2009 and then 2-8 last year. As a new opponent for the Cougars, previous records really mean nothing. A member of 1A District 2, Cosby plays east Tennessee teams such as Gatlinburg-Pittman, Pigeon Forge and North Greene. What will the long road trip mean for the Cougars' chances in this one? |
Moore County High School
Playing @ Home on 9.16, 7:30 pm
Jay and Jeremy's Team Assessment:
Mascot: Raiders
Head Coach: B. Scott Smith
Colors: Columbia Blue/White
2010 Record: 6-4
Advanced to Second Round |
The Raiders have made the playoffs two of the last three seasons including a second round trip last year until they were defeated by South Pittsburg. The Cougars defeated Moore County 30-7 in 2009, but lost however in the rematch in 2010 at Moore County 20-7. The rubber game comes this year in Murfreesboro as the Cougars look to get their revenge back on the Raiders. |
Jay and Jeremy's Team Assessment:
Mascot: Vikings
Head Coach: Jace Bryant
Colors: Blue/Gold
2010 Record: 0-9
Did Not Make Playoffs |
People outside Unionville haven't had a chance to get to know the Community Vikings well. The head coach has not returned a survey for Murphy Fair's book in the last 2 years, so the best information available is usually gathered from the Shelbyville Times Gazette. The information hasn’t been that good recently. After a Week 2 victory over Nashville Christian in 2008, the Vikings are winless in 26 tries. This season, however, may be Community's best chance in recent history to beat the Cougars. After a long road trip to Cosby High in Week 5, MTCS will travel to play in Unionville. Enough of the season will have gone by for the Vikings to know who the playmakers are for the Cougars, and it could be a close thing.

Forrest High School
Playing @ Home on 10.07, 7:30 pm
Jay and Jeremy's Team Assessment:
Mascot: Rockets
Head Coach: Kyle Stacey
Colors: Blue/White/Red
2010 Record: 6-4
Lost in First Round of Playoffs |
The Rockets have made the playoffs the last two seasons and under Coach Stacey they continue to find consistent success. The Cougars have defeated the Rockets two of the last three years with the only loss coming in 2009 by a score of 37-7. The home team is 3-0 in this series and the Cougars play them at home in 2011. |
Eagleville High School
Playing @ EHS on 10.14, 7:30 pm
Jay and Jeremy's Team Assessment:
Mascot: Eagles
Head Coach: Steve Carson
Colors: Royal Maroon/White
2010 Record: 5-5
Lost In First Round |
The Eagles are coming off their second straight postseason appearance, and head coach Steve Carson seems to have his program set for future greatness. There's only one problem: He's 0-3 against the Cougars. While losing to MTCS has not affected their playoff chances (yet), falling to your biggest rival 3 straight years affects the way you view the success of a season. The 2011 and 2012 matchups will take place in Week 8, so while the winner of the District won’t be decided by this game as it has the past 2 years, they will have a huge leg up going into the last 2 games. Senior QB's Ivey Starling and Bryan Smith will lead their teams against each other on the gridiron after leading their teams on the baseball diamond. Smith got the better of the stickball fights, but Starling is 1-0 against Smith on the football field. Is a fourth straight rivalry win in store? |
Mount Juliet Christian School
Playing @ Mt. Juliet on 10.21, 7:30 pm
Jay and Jeremy's Team Assessment:
Mascot: Saints
Head Coach: Mark Harrison
Colors: Royal Blue/Gold
2010 Record: 2-8
Did Not Make Playoffs
|
The Saints haven't played the Cougars since the first two years the football program was established in '05 and '06. The Cougars are 1-1 against the Saints with a 35-6 win in 2006. |
Huntland High School
Playing @ Home for Senior Night on 10.28, 7:30 pm
Jay and Jeremy's Team Assessment:
Mascot: Hornets
Head Coach: Bob Robertson
Colors: Blue/White
2010 Record: 3-7
Did Not Make Playoffs |
The Cougars are 2-0 all-time against the Hornets and have yet to allow a point. Over the past two seasons, MTCS is outscoring Huntland by a score of 71-0. The Cougars look to continue the trend as they close out the regular season at home against the Hornets. |
